What lies ahead for the Iranian economy
bluebottom

With the November 24th extended deadline of the Geneva agreement swiftly approaching, the Board of Directors of Anjoman cordially invites you to an analysis of 'what lies ahead of the Iranian economy, with or without the sanctions' the day after the deadline.

Dr. Hassan Hakimian is the Director of the London Middle East Institute (LMEI) and a Reader in Economics with reference to the Middle East at SOAS, University of London. Previously, he was an Associate Dean at Cass Business School, where he introduced and led international Executive MBA programmes in Shanghai (Bank of China) and Dubai (Dubai International Financial Centre - DIFC). During a ten-year period between 1993 and 2002, Dr Hakimian was at the SOAS Department of Economics where he directed postgraduate international distance learning programmes, which won SOAS the Queen's Prize for Higher and Further Education in 1996.

Dr Hakimian has published widely, and consulted for international development agencies, on Middle Eastern economies with special reference to Iran. He is the author of Labour Transfer and Economic Development (1990) and co-editor of The State and Global Change (2000), and Trade Policy and Economic Integration in MENA (2003). His most recent book (co-edited with Parvin Alizadeh) is entitled Iran and the Global Economy: Petro Populism, Islam and Economic Sanctions (Routledge, 2013).

Since re-joining SOAS in 2010, he has overseen several new initiatives at the LMEI including the setting up of SOAS's Centre for Iranian Studies - a premier academic forum for advancing Iranian studies as a broad and interdisciplinary field at the University of London. He is a Founding Member and Executive Secretary of the International Iranian Economic Association (IIEA) and a Research Fellow at the Economic Research Forum, a network of Middle East economists based in Cairo. He is also the founder and Series Editor for the "Routledge Political Economy of the Middle East and North Africa".
